I waited years for this particular version to be available. I have the Brass version already but wanted the Alum too. What I received is not what I wanted, nor what is in the picture. The wood in the picture shown here looks my older one, like it should look, and what I paid an extra $50 for…
The wood on the one I received looks like cheap plywood stained a light orange. It’s horrible. Embarrassing really. Also embarrassing that Buck would use the name Cocobolo on it. Just call it what it looks like; Home Depot plywood soaked in Orange Crush. I usually show off cool new knives to friends, but I will not be doing that with this one.
I wondered if the picture here was outdated, but the date stamp says 2024. Then I wondered if the picture was photoshopped? Whatever the case, it seems clear that Buck decided to cut corners yet again to save a penny and finally ruin their flagship product. Is good stain really that expensive?
Also, the handle is not even finished. It appears they got most of the way sanding it to shape and called it good enough. Was the tech to blame, or is Buck is not giving them enough time to actually do the job? Assuming the wood looked good enough to keep, I would need to finish sanding it to shape myself. So I guess I will break the wood off and try my hand at making my own handle, but I could’ve done that with a Phenolic version for $50 less.
It’s also more than 1/8″ shy of the advertised 6″ blade. Buck has been shorting blades for a while, but of my 10, yes ten, 119’s, this one is the shortest. Fyi.
Since C&C gets reviews mixed up, this is for the Buck 119 Cocobolo, Alum, 420HC # 0119CCS1-B.
